Been studying some of the Jazz violin greats recently and it's staggering how few of them have recorded 12 bar blues.
I wanted a simple 12 bar blues to look more closely at the solos and their relationships with harmony but I've been finding it very difficult to find one. Stephane Grappelli has recorded very few and they all seem to be slow-mid tempo when I was really interested in something more upbeat. In my quest I have discovered some great violinists though it has been really fun listening to the classics like Stuff Smith, Joe Venuti and Grappelli but I have also discovered some modern greats in particular Didier Lockwood and Florin Nicolescu and I am really looking forward to studying some of their interpretations of classic standards. I am not worthy!
I cannot recommend Didier Lockwood's album 'Tribute to Stéphane Grappelli' enough though!
