I am in the odd position of rehearsing all day for the Greenwich Early music festival... And then recording Thriller this evening with Sarah.
It struck me as we were rehearsing a piece by Jean Rebel that there is quite possibly no two things more opposite.
But that is the life of a musician, one moment über serious and discussing the relative merits of using Baroque bows over modern ones, and then you're playing Michael Jackson with (spoiler alert!) bats hanging from the ceiling.
On a slight tangent, it is the first time I have used a Baroque bow, I don't know how I managed to go 14 years of playing the violin without ever trying one out but it is. It's a very strange experience, but, I instead of wrecking my technique like I thought it might, it actually has me playing much more naturally and I think my sounds has improved just from a morning of playing. I may have to buy myself a cheap one from eBay.
Happy Halloween everyone!
